Close enough to hear it.
Not close enough to understand.
Missed By Half is about the small misunderstandings that seem harmless until they start accumulating. A word is misheard, an intention is guessed and both people carry on rather than stopping to check. Eventually the disagreement isn’t really about what was originally said at all; it’s about everything each person has been filling in for themselves.
You spoke fast, I caught half
Filled the rest, guessed the path
You said left, I heard right
We both paused, let it slide
Small thing, leave it there
But it stayed in the air
We don’t say what we mean
We just nod and agree
Then it shifts underneath
Missed by half, every time
Missed by half, every line
Later on, same mistake
Same words, different take
You correct, I push back
Now it’s more than the fact
Not the point, not the phrase
Just the way that it plays
We don’t say what we mean
We just nod and agree
Then it shifts underneath
Missed by half, every time
Missed by half, every line
Say it clean
Say it straight
Don’t adjust
Don’t translate
We don’t say what we mean
We just nod and agree
Then it shifts underneath
Missed by half, every time
Missed by half, every line
say it again
