    The Last Biscuit

    FIZZY VEINS

    Everyone wants it.
Nobody wants to be the one who takes it.

The Last Biscuit celebrates the gentle awkwardness of everyday politeness. One biscuit sits untouched while conversations drift around it, proving that even the smallest decisions can become surprisingly complicated when everyone’s trying to be considerate.

    Still one left

    Sunday afternoon, kettle’s on again
Someone’s halfway through a story they’ve already told
    Packet’s empty, plate’s nearly clear
Just one lonely biscuit sitting there
    Everyone’s seen it, nobody bites
Conversation carrying on like it’s out of sight
Funny little rule that nobody wrote
    Still somehow everybody knows

    Go on then

    No, you have it

    Honestly

    I’m alright

The last biscuit, still on the plate
Been there twenty minutes now, just waiting
    Everybody wants it, nobody moves
Like there’s something left to prove
Go on, have it, don’t mind me
    We’ve all done this silently
One little biscuit, five grown adults
Making it far more awkward than it needs to be

Tea’s gone cold, coats are on
Somebody says they’d best be gone
    Still that biscuit, holding court
Like it’s waiting for majority support
Dave just shrugs and picks it up
Takes one bite, then drains his cup
Whole room laughs, spell is gone
    Conversation carries on

    Would’ve gone soft by tomorrow

    That would’ve been a waste

The last biscuit, gone at last
Never thought it’d be the hardest task
Funny the things that we all do
Just because we’re trying to be polite
    Next Sunday, same old place
Same old kettle, same old faces
Leave one biscuit on the plate
We’ll probably do it all again

    Should’ve just taken it
