Most of these probably aren’t theirs.

Mr Monroe takes a walk down the high street and does what people do when given a stranger and insufficient information. A dress, an umbrella, a single rose or a familiar glance is usually enough to construct several decades of somebody else’s life with remarkable confidence. They could all be completely wrong. Celia may not even know Daniel. The quiet lad probably isn’t joining the police. Still, Mr Monroe has somewhere to be, and there’s plenty of time to get everybody else’s life sorted on the way.
